Composite Technician

In 2016, while pursuing my Master’s Degree in Industrial Design and eager to learn how to work with different materials, I joined Kreisler & Associates as a Composite Technician. Here, I gained hands-on experience with fiber-reinforced polymers (FRP) used in underwater vehicles, architecture, and unique industrial applications. This role provided me with valuable insights into the practical applications of composite materials and expanded my skills in working with FRP for various innovative projects.

The Mini Submarine

One standout project I had the opportunity to work on was a mini submarine designed for a luxury hotel. The process began with engineers using a large CNC machine to cut a giant block of polyurethane. My role involved applying aluminum foil to the foam, followed by beeswax to prevent the resin from hardening on it. After that, I meticulously added layer after layer of fiberglass treated with resin, pressing each layer down with a roller to eliminate bubbles. This process, overseen and assisted by my mentor, was repeated until the desired thickness was achieved. Once completed, the submarine was shipped out for pressure testing in a laboratory.

Sculpture: Canopies and Sun Shades

Another significant project I managed to work on, was with the creation of the Boathouse Pavilion, which is currently located in Tula, Oklahoma. This project involved the construction of a unique architectural structure designed to serve as a multi-functional space for events and gatherings. The Boathouse Pavilion was an ambitious project that required meticulous planning and execution, utilizing advanced composite materials to achieve both aesthetic appeal and structural integrity.

I was deeply involved in the hands-on fabrication process, working with fiber-reinforced polymers (FRP) to create the pavilion’s distinctive elements. The project was a challenging yet rewarding experience, highlighting the importance of teamwork and innovation in achieving complex architectural goals. The completed Boathouse Pavilion stands as a testament to our dedication and craftsmanship, providing a beautiful and functional space for the Tula community.
